HughesNet HN7000S 2-Way System
The Control Center on the HN7000S is accessable by typing http://192.168.0.1 in your web browser. From her you can view a great
deal on information about your modem configuration. Signal strength, ranging, connection logs, configuration, and much more. The
Control Center is available on all the newer, self-hosted modems .. but is not available on older units like the DW4000 and DW3000.
In early 2006 Hughes introduced the HN7000S modem to the market. It was the first modem released
under the new 'HughesNet' name. (Hughes previously marketed it's satellite internet service under the
While very similar in looks and function to it's predecessor the DW7000, the HN7000S features a new
performance enhancement with it's DVBS-2 technology. DVBS-2 allows for a number of performance
boosts, such as greater throughput on a given dish size and better functioning in poor weather.
While the HN7000S modem can operate in standard DVBS mode, it needs to be in DVBS-2 mode to really shine.
New installations are pointed to DVBS-2 enabled satellites, but some upgrades from earlier model modems are
left pointed to the old satellite. If upgrading from a prior model modem, it's important to ask about being pointed
to a new DVBS-2 enabled satellite.
Alike previous models (like the DW6000/DW7000), the HN7000S features a nice user accessable diagnostics
menu. It shows pretty much everythin a user would want to know about the modem : Signal strength, satellite
it's aimed at, DVBS/S2 status, TX/RX status, and many, many more.
Key features of the Hughes DVB-S2 standard implementation include QPSK and 8PSK modulations for higher throughputs; efficient LDPC coding; and ACM for improved availability and power conservation.
