Tips - N -Tricks !
Some tips to fix common DirecWay / DirecPC problems,
and some tricks to get things working the way you want them !
                                                  DirecWay DW7000 / DW6000 :

Slow Browsing ? : There's a minor bug in the "Turbo Page" allocated PipeID that can cause browsing to slow. If your browsing doesn't seem up to speed, go to the Turbo Page Debug Statistics ( http://192.168.0.1/stats/tpcDebug/ ) and look for "Allocated PipeID's Count".
If it's at 512 then your browsing is likely impared. Restarting your modem should fix the problem & bring the county back down. (Though
you may have to monitor it occasionally to make sure it doesn't get back up there.)

Quick Modem Restart :  Speaking of restarting your modem ... Want a quick link to restart it? Just put this in your browser :
http://192.168.0.1/com/gatewayreset/  . Be careful though and make sure it's what you want to do. The quick restart link won't ask you any questions .. it'll just restart it !

HyperTerminal Access :  Windows XP comes with a handy terminal emulation program called "HyperTerminal" .. so why not have some fun using it ! Another method of accessing the internal commands & stats of your DW6000/DW7000 modem is through terminal programs like HyperTerminal. Here's how it's done : Click on START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/COMMUNICATIONS and select HyperTerminal. HyperTerminal will ask you if you want to make it your default Telnet program  .. your choice .. there's no bad answer.
It will ask you to enter a name, & choose an icon for the connection. You can enter any name, and select any icon .. then, click "OK".
This will bring up the main program window. From the lower pull-down menu select "TCP/IP (WinSock)". Next, enter 192.168.0.1 in the
"Host Address" bar, and enter 1953 in the "Port Number" section. Now click "OK". That's it ! You're in ! You'll see the menu appear in the HyperTerminal screen.

More accurate ranging : If you would like to tell your DW6/7K where it is in the world for ranging in a more accurate way then entering your zip code, here is the procedure. In order to do this you will need to know the latitude and longitude of your dish location in degrees and minutes.

Note: In the example below we are using 192.168.0.1 as the address to connect to the DW6000. For some Pro service users with a static IP and using a router that can't reach their DW6000 using the 192.168.0.1 address, you will need to use the address that is one less than your static IP. This would be the same address your router is using as its default gateway. If your static IP is 69.35.46.10 then the address you would use to connect to the DW6000 is 69.35.46.9.

Please keep in mind that you are writing a complete new parameter set to the DW6/7K when you do this. If you change something you shouldn't, like something not listed here, your modem will no longer work, although you should be able to get it back the way it was by re-running Satellite Based Commissioning. That being said, this does work and won't break anything if you follow the instructions.

From a command prompt, type "telnet 192.168.0.1 1953" without the quotes. At the telnet prompt, enter the following keystrokes, where [enter] means hit your return or enter key and [\] means hit the backslash key, etc.
1. [enter]

2. [a] [enter]

3. [enter] 3 times

4. Enter your longitude degrees then [enter]

5. Enter your longitude minutes then [enter]

6. Enter [1] for western hemisphere then [enter]

7. Enter your latitude degrees then [enter]

8. Enter your latitude minutes then [enter]

9. Enter [2] for northern hemisphere then [enter]

10. [\] [enter]

11. [pw] [enter] [y] [enter](If you are sure!)

12. [i] [enter]

13. [enter] 2 times

14. [d] [enter]

Wait for ranging to finish. When ranging is done, you will see the message "[NORANGE_REQD] Transmitter ready. TX code 8"

15. [enter]

16. [z] [enter] [z] [enter]

                                                          DirecWay DW4000/3000/DirecPC

I'm getting Red X's instead of images on web-pages. What do I do ? :

Load Internet Explorer and uncheck "Use HTTP 1.1 Through Proxy Connections" . (This is located under : Tools / Internet Options / Advanced (tab).  Uncheck the Use HTTP 1.1 Through Proxy Connections box, and then click "Apply".  Close Explorer and then reopen.  Images should load fine now.
If that doesn't work, try switching the Proxy port to 83 , or 85 . (That setting is located under : Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN Settings / Advanced . Change the setting then click "Apply" .)

Running websetup without a phone connection :

Sometimes it can come in handy to be able to run websetup without being connected to a phone line. A good example of this would be if you've changed hard drives or computers.  Instead of reinstalling the DirecWay software on the new computer, and going through the trouble of connecting a dialup modem to your 2-Way system .. or going through the hassle of re-entering all the billing info & such .. Simply copy the DirecWay folder off your old hard drive onto your new one. Then, go to Start -> Run (and type)  C:\Progra~1\Direcway\bin\websetup /config . Websetup will ignore the fact that you don't have a modem connected and will install the DirecWay software using the paramaters you already have in your DirecWay folder.  (Thanks to site member PXN (J) for the tip !)

Everything's configured right .. but I can't send email ! :

If you're a 1-Way user, you can open your email properties & change your outgoing (SMTP) server to the one from your dial-up account.  Another trick to  try is switching your email server from mail.DirecWay.com to mail.DirecPC.com (or vice-versa depending on which system you have ) .  Or, if you happen to have your own website you can try switching to your websites outgoing email server. (I.E. : mail.yourwebsitename.com ) Sure, it's a bit of a hassel .. but if you're pressed to send that email, the above quick-fixes might just do the trick !

Ebay auction pages wont load ! :

Having difficulty with eBay and DirecWay? It seems eBay isn't always compatible with proxy-servers. A problem arises when trying to view the actual auction pages themselves. The pages just won't load. To fix this, turn off the proxy-server option in your web browser. In Explorer, select Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings , and uncheck the box marked Use a Proxy under Proxy Server settings.*Note: You'll have to re-check the "Use a Proxy Server" box to use the Turbo-Newscast & Turbo-Webcast programs in the DirecPC software. The above is a sort of quick-n-simple fix . A better / long-term solution would be to go to the same location (Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings) and select Advanced/Exceptions. Once there, place cgi.ebay.com, cgi1.ebay.com, cgi2.ebay.com, cgi3.ebay.com, contact.ebay.com, cgi6.ebay.com, in the exceptions box.  This puts Ebay in as an exception to the proxy so all other sites are still proxied.

Better Web Browsing : 2-Way users may see better web-browsing by reducing the web browser cache size. Here's how ! In Internet Explorer go to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS . Under "Temporary Internet Files" select the "settings" button. On the next screen you'll see a section marked "Temporary Internet Files Folder". Change the numberin that box to "1". Press "OK", then press "OK" again. Done !

Easy DW4000 Commissioning : Go to Start, run. Browse down till you find the websetup in the DW BIN folder. It will appear in the RUN box in quotation marks. Leave the quotation marks then hit the space bar once. Then type "config" (less the quotation marks). Hit "enter" and follow the on screen prompts.
